Jack Reacher lives a simple yet fulfilling life, drifting from town to town. Doing whatever he wants, when he wants. No home, No ID, No credit card, so it’s safe to say his lifestyle is “cheap,” but the constant stays in motels and the odd purchase here and there, requires some money.

So How does he pay for it?
Jack Reacher gets his money mainly through his military pension, where he gets money wired to him. He also makes money through odd jobs (such as digging pools) and occasionally taking money from the criminals he catches.
So That’s it answered right? he gets his money from jobs and stealing, well there’s a little bit more to it. Read on to find out exactly how he makes money and how much.
Army Pension
It’s no surprise to find out that Reacher was in the army, hell it’s half of his personality. What’s important was the fact he was A military policeman for 13 years, and had achieved the rank of Major.

Reacher’s time in the military was cut short, after A huge Drug bust made his superiors look bad. Fortunately for him, all they could do was honourably discharge him, resulting in him keeping his Pension.
As You know Reacher doesn’t carry a credit card, so he put his money into western union and has the bank wire him small amounts when he needs them.
Odd Jobs
You would think Military pension would be enough to cover Reacher’s minimalistic lifestyle. Whether it is or it isn’t, Reacher occasionally has the odd job to either save from dipping into his pension, or just to pass the time.
So Probably his most obvious odd job, is his work as a PI. Makes sense right? Policeman doing police stuff, this is Reacher’s most common side job, and the one that leads to the most action.

Another Job worth mentioning is the time Jack Reacher spent Digging Swimming Pools, In the Book “Tripwire” he made a bit of money doing this. Reacher even found it quite lucrative, due to his insane speed digging, oh and it’s a great way to stay in shape.
In the same book, Reacher spent time working as a bouncer, again something Reacher would be very good at!
“The other way”
There is one other way Reacher makes money, he strips for hen parties!
okay, not really.
Reacher meets a lot of bad people, I mean a lot of bad people. Most of the time he ends up knocking them out or killing them. If Reacher is running a little short, he will take from them, after all it’s not like they got it through humane means.

Take the end of season two for example, Reacher and his team end up with over a million dollars, which he spends righting the wrongs of Shane Langston. It’s rare he will use money on himself, but it shows he isn’t afraid to take money from the bad guy.
How Much does Jack Have?
There is one question I know is on your mind, How much does Jack Reacher actually have?
Well, I’m only going to include Jack’s Military pension as that is the only stable amount he has (although he has sold a property left to him in the past.)
So the basic military pension starts at 20 years of service, but as Jack Reacher was so highly regarded lets assume he was eligible.

Lets assume Jack Reacher was A Major in the army, so his annual salary was $69,636 a year. A pension is 2.5 percent of every year served so that is $1,740 a year. Times that by 13 and you get a total pension pot of $22,631.
In Short
So there we have it, how Jack Reacher makes his money. I’ll Admit I thought his pension would be a lot more than it is, but I guess that explains why he still needs the extra bit of money.
Thankyou for reading and I hope you now finally know how Jack Reacher sustains his lifestyle!
